Bugger.  I think it's a Cmd.Exe option anyhow.

In any case, your original "CD C:\xxx\xxx" command works fine on
my wife's XP machine using either Command.Com or Cmd.Exe, so, maybe your
4NT thingie is playing up?  Either that or the directory you're trying to
CD to is invalid.  :)

(BTW, I've been doing all these tests at the command prompt; not in a .Bat file.)
