Season's Greetings Sandy,
SW> If you'd been 70 miles offshore in a sailboat and a large powerboat
SW> approached you without hailing or calling on VHF, you'd probably have a
SW> different view about carrying firearms on a boat. This happened to me,
SW> and since then, I've had a good long-range rifle aboard when going
SW> offshore. Incidently, the boat only needed a bearing to the Dry
SW> Tortugas, having lost their LORAN and not knowing where they were!
SW> Perhaps a warning shot across the bow would have encouraged them to pick
SW> up the VHF!

I've always felt the same way. I sailed on a boat in Europe
with a cache to kill for - I mean these guys had EVERYTHING short
of a bazooka! My personal favourite was the Uzi's :^) The problem
is, however, that pirates also have toys to kill for... even their
tenders are equipped with radar and heat seeking missles! In
short, it really doesn't matter much what YOU have on board -
unless you've got an ample supply of shear luck, you really can't
expect to take more than 1 or 2 of them with you... and there
would be MANY of them! Now, torpedos!! That's where the future
lies! :^) Hail the approaching boat on your VHF - if no response,
lock your controller onto the target and fire at will!
Cheers,
Augustin~~~===
