That 'either/or is too Aristotelian for my liking.

(My liking does not often evince universal agreement :-)

I think that will in is bondage primarily to self. Hence
Luke (and more clearly in the non-canonical Gospel of Thomas)
Mastery (release from bondage) of the will is found in the
kingdom of God which is within you.

Hmmm. 'bondage to sin'.
