Hello Kris, On (02 Jan 98) cybercadet Kris Steenhaut wrote to Phil Heberer... KS> KS>> I was there too. Agreed, WP6.0 Dos & WP6.0A Dos gave some KS> KS>> horrible events. But _everething_ was fixed in WP6.0b. And it KS> KS>> was still WordPerfect Corporation, at that time. I missed this the first time, but wasn't WP bought out by Novell prior to the WP6.0b release? Novell most likely just released what WPCorp had already developed, IMO, but just curious. KS> I wouldn't know. The 6.0c was an American-only issue, by the way. As I I didn't know 6.0c was an American only release. Interesting! KS> stated before, I do have 6.0b and 6.2 here in separated directories, KS> for I want to have the both the Dutch and UK versions working KS> independently but simultaniously in their own OS2-box. KS> No difference, except for the handling of tables, and WP6.2 is a bit KS> quicker in mailmerging and databasefunctions. To be quite honest with you, with what little *I* do I haven't really noticed much gains in speed through the various versions. Mostly what I've noticed are just more bells and whistles or "enhanced" options. PH> That's NOT what the U.S. Department of Justice said! KS> Sadly, at this moment it's only much ado about nothing. (-: Having read some of the news reports from both sides, I'd have a tendency to agree with you on this one. PH> that looked an awful lot like IBM officially dropping support for OS2 PH> (dated 24 Nov 97, BTW) :( KS> Well, PC On-line is telling this story about then years know, aren't KS> they? Hasn't of course nothing to do with M$ commercial politics . KS> Anyway, if you want to rely on that kind of information, I hope you KS> will be happy with that. I only said "official" support was dropping. That doesn't mean that those who use the system will drop it. Heck, *I* still occasionally use and support the Commodore-64/128 8-bit line which was officially "dead" 10+ years ago. User support is as strong or stronger than ever now (check out the Fido echos CBM, CBM-128, or CBM-GEOS)!! With user support, we now have the capability of 16megs of RAM, SCSI hard drives, 3.2 meg 3.5" floppies, 115,200k modem access, and a 20 MHZ CPU accelerator on a C-64! Hobbyists don't know something is "impossible", so we do it anyway! KS> Be happy. In short time you will be forced to Win98 or whatever else KS> BillyBoy is going to force on you. Not if *I* can help it! As long as I can deal with whatever formats my co-workers can use, I'll stick with WordPerfect and my present system. I don't have to be the fastest or the slickest -- I just need to get the job done. BTW, I *also* drive a 1972 VW air-cooled convertible! KS> No problem for me: I'll be going along along with that dead thing you KS> mentioned for many, many years. I'd be willing to bet you won't be alone! It's too bad IBM's marketing isn't as good as Microsloth's. Cheers, Phil KS> Groeten uit Gent, KS> Regards/2 KS> Kris KS> --- GoldED/2 3.00.Beta1+ ... Hello? Operator? Gimme hell.
