THis ine uses 5/8 elements, not 1/4 wave.  According to the article that
I built it from, (73, June '95, PP 18 & 20), this is a true 6 dBD, not
dBi.  I have no way to measure the gain of this antenna, but it sure does
walk & talk with 4 W out of the HT and about 30 Ft. of RG-8! (Sorry for
the Chickie-band slang.)   :-/

Ok, I see your point.  Lessee, there are quite a few plastics, (PVC pipe,
fer instance), that should be able to support the weight.
