Actually, at one time or another, SOMEONE has probably tried just about
every possible variation of every well-known antenna, almost every
immaginable antenna, and probably a few unimaginable antennas as well. 
The problem is that there is no way to know what has been tried and what
hasn't, except for those versions that have been published in various
places, (like QST, 73, the ARRL Antenna Book series, etc.).
