DM> I thought I read that the Katana, was going to have a DVD
DM> drive? (You said it would be 4x cd drive)
That isn't going to happen. DVD-ROM drives for PCs cost $500 Canadian,
which is more expensive than an entire N64 system - plus a game or two -
right now. Sega's emphasis is on the graphics this time, and as such the
most expensive parts on the Katana are undoubtedly the 3D hardware and its
memory.
DM> I was joking about Quake. I meant it like why not just put
DM> more games on game com that we are getting tired of! Isn't
DM> Mortal Kombat 3 on there? Couldn't they think up a better
DM> name for it too? Game.com|Gameboy? They could have put color
DM> too. That's can't be too expensive now, GameGear did it
DM> almost six years ago.
DM> Who wants a GAMECOM anyway? It's exactly what we don't need.
DM> Sure you can play duke 3d, but duke 3d is also on 64, psx,
DM> Saturn, and PC? Anyone who would buy a GAMEBOY probably
DM> already has one of these.
Actually, I think the Game.com has the Mortal Kombat Trilogy, not just the
most recent individual incarnation.
The main reason for getting a Game.com is portability. You can't lug your
PC or N64 around with you just so you can play Duke 3D. If you're leaving
your computer often, a Game.com is perfect.
DM> Wasn't there a cutting edge portable 5 years ago, I think it
DM> was called LYNX. It had color and all that. Who bought one?
DM> Better yet, I'll look for it.....in that closet where
DM> consoles go when they die.
I think some people bought it, but its maker - Atari - messed up with it,
as they seem to do with any hot technology. In this case, I think a poor
selection of titles did it in.
