Bill Cheek writes in a message to Scott Christensen
BC> The government BUILT, developed, and then gave away the Internet.
Actual control is not required in order to snoop...
SC> So I think that there is a definite "snoop factor" involved.
BC> Easily countered, though.
So counter it!
SC> Remember the "clipper chip?" This was their way of giving us a false
SC> sense of security - *they* could break that encryption any time they
SC> wanted.
BC> Security? Hah! The Clipper Chip had everyone's rectums pinching
BC> down on their seats. No love for that puppy..........
Exactly my point. It isn't security at all.
BC> There are growing pains associated with anything new. We have
BC> to evolve our own standards and secure methodologies and keep
BC> the government out of it.
But can you say they aren't monitoring? Now? Why would Al Gore push it so
hard if the government wasn't real interested in it - for their own personal
uses.
BC> It is against Fido Policy4 to do that. But then maybe the government
BC> has been running Fido all these years.........
So change "Policy." As for anyone running Fidonet, I doubt that
*anyone* actually does!
