Wirkungsgeschichte is one of thoese nifty German words that doesn't have
a good English equivlant.  Basically it means the effect, or the reapearance,
it reference to how others take the original work and rework its ideas into
thier own work, but one must still be fimular with the original to understand
the reworking.
