GS> Back in Jan '95 I read a post here from Hugh Duff about a cb to 6m mod.
GS> I was wondering if Hugh is still around or if anyone has any info on
GS> this mod? A couple of us have some old CBs laying around and have
GS> already done a 10m conversion and would like to try 6m on the cheap.
Glenn the 6m mods from an old 11m radio were done on only one chassis.
The specific chassis you could modify for use on 6m was made by Cybernet and
was seen under several different brand names in the early to late 70's.
Some of the radios wore the brand names of HyGain,Citizen,Pearce-Simpson,
Sears,DAK,Midland and RCA.
The chassis used for the 6m mod was the Cybernet AM/SSB chassis (mobile or
base) with the PLL-02A chip for a PLL.
The mod was -not- for the non-technically minded as you could end up with a
basket case for a radio if not done carefully as there were modifications to
several sections of the reciever,VCO block area, mixers and transmit areas to
get the chassis up onto 6m.
Most important is to find a chassis that has -NOT- been screw-drivered to
death by some kitchen-table `technician' trying to get it to go outside the
11m
40 channel band-plan.
This saves tons of problems if the radio is already aligned properly to
start with to make sure everything -works- properly before you go into it.
I'll re-post the mod and you can read thru it and see how it's done.
