I don't know of any good books on programming in assembly for OS/2, and I
can't even think of any good books on programming in assembly for protected
mode.  Most assembly books invest a great deal of time on how to manipulate
hardware, especially for graphics, since that is why most programmers want
to learn assembly.

Actually, programming in assembly under OS/2 (except for device drivers) is
quite a lot closer to programming in assembly on a mainframe than it is
under DOS, since the operating system provides a rich set of useful
services.  All of the OS/2 API is accessible from assembly language,
although it is stack based, so you don't have to worry about writing
directly to vido RAM and such.

It is extremely rare these days that I write a 32-bit routine in assembly.
