  I have the latest IBM VisualAge C++ Tools CSD (CTC303 if I recall
  correctly), and precompiled headers still don't work.

  There is an acknowledged bug in precompiled headers to do with
  pragmas, which they haven't yet fixed.  It really screws up DTS C++
  (SYS3175 in DDE4CPP).
