I'm glad to hear I'm not just wasting my time typing, that it's GOING
somewhere! I was wondering...
As for "cheap birds", I can attest to what I said with a story. There is
a woman local to me who gets all her birds at garage sales, etc. Anybody
who is getting rid of a bird for whatever reason, she takes'em all.
She won't buy directly from breeders--they cost too much there.
She has over 100 birds, mostly tiels, and I don't think she paid over
$10 for the most expensive one of the lot. Her babies regularly die on
their new owners--so often that she just tells buyers "if it dies, I'll
replace it". She has no idea where most of her birds originated from
because they aren't banded, so she could easily be breeding related
birds together. And because her finances are limited, her birds
unfortunately get minimal vet care.
I think she does actually love her birds, but she has certainly not put
the money into assembling a quality flock, and her buyers pay the price
for getting cheap birds from her all too often.
I'd rather see someone get a FEW birds, good ones, and take proper care
of them, rather than buying a BUNCH of birds cheap and ending up with a
major disaster which scares them out of birds entirely.
