If you use the connecting and sharing folder to control this, then you may
have noticed in the help that it advises to create a DRIVE share for every
drive that contains a DIRECTORY share you also wish to create. The key here
is that if you wish to allow access to an ENTIRE DRIVE, then there are in
fact 2 ways to do this, with slightly different but subtle methodologies.
As a DRIVE share (IE the share is 'F:' with NO backslash in the name), the
actual directory structures on that drive are not relevant. Directory
creation on this drive is also irrelevant, if the person accessing the drive
can see it, then all directories on it should be visible automatically,
included directories created by those who have WRITE access enabled to that
DRIVE.
However if you create a directory share (IE the share is 'F:\' WITH a
backslash), then access to that directory AND subdirecties is controlled on a
'per directory' basis using ACL's. In this case directory creation and
visbility depends on individual access rights.
If you wish to share an entire drive, then the first way can perform better
if the directory structure is large and complicated. This may account for
what you are seeing..........pk.
