KL> HI Dan!
KL>
KL> DT> KAREN LONG spoke of [2/2] Discussions?? :) to DAN TRIPLETT on
KL> DT> 05-01-97
KL> DT> Karen,
KL> DT> I am not sure of what advice to give you regarding your
KL> DT> daughter. I have copied the letter and plan to show it to our
KL> DT> school reading specialist. Perhaps she has some direction for
KL> DT> you.
KL>Thanks Dan!!! I keep pluggin' away...but I'm afraid it's going to
KL>take someone a little more skilled and educated than I to truly be
KL>able to help her in the fashion that she needs it!
Yes....and now that school is out I may not get the information I
wanted....
But still, you are the best advocate your child has and you should
remember that.
You mentioned that her reading teacher has pressured her for answers and
Chelsea has begun to cry. I am assuming that you have talked to the
teacher and questioned him/her on this approach. What have they had to
say?
I was wondering, is it possible to transfer to another school that has a
philosophy a little more in line with helping all kids learn?? From
your description, it sounds like they are not teaching children but
teaching curriculum. This may be too harsh a judgement since I only
know what you have told me but your descriptions send shivers in me.
While Chelsea may not qualify for LD.....it does seem to me that she may
qualify for health impaired.....I am not sure what the criteria is but
you could check this out with your state Epilepsy
foundation/chapter....if you have one....I am just guessing here..
I'll dig into this a bit more...since I am interested in your questions
as well...
take care....
Dan
