Having just caught these threads dealing with the apparent demise of the
ysop
program, I'd like to add a few comments of my own.
The sysop program is how I obtained my very first Courier, back in the days
when the list price was $1295 and the sysop price was about $499 or so.
That was still a hefty pricetag, but let me tell you that for the performance
I received, I've never regretted it, and I've continued to promote USR (and
more recently 3Com) ever since.
Over the years, I've recommended the USR product line exclusively, and many
f
my callers have gone with them. (Judging from surveys, over half of them
d.)
My latest Courier purchase was by mail order during the $50 rebate period and
cost only a few dollars more than the Sysop program offered and I had it
delivered overnight.
The economics are pretty clear, regardless of the status of bbsing today.
The sysop program made a big difference for me, though, and I very much
appreciate the fact that it was available, and I'll miss that. I always
made a point to check the latest sysop deal before making decisions
about modem purchases for my board.
The program will be missed. There are still a lot of serious sysops out
re.
