 Taxes are NOT "extortion". They are a system put in place to pay the 
xpenses
 of a government that I (and other U.S. citizens) have asked our elected
 representatives to put into place. Just like paying dues to belong to an
 organization like the Elks, the PTA or the Chamber of Commerce.

 In the eyes of the community, if you choose to avail yourself of the 
enefits
 of that community without paying your fair share of the expenses for those
 benefits, then, yes, you are a criminal in the eyes of the community. The
 community members don't _need_ to be _told_ you are a criminal by anyone.
 
 Now, just as in more ancient societies, anyone that doesn't want to obey the
 rules set down by the community has two choices. Either leave the community
 with which they are so unhappy or get themselves elected to be a
 representative of the people of that community and change the rules.
 
 If someone wants to abolish all taxes, they can either start their own
 country somewhere or get themselves established as a dictator and see how
 long their country lasts without collecting from the masses.
 
 BTW, this "rule-making" business goes clear down to the family level.
 Presumably the adults have made some "rules" and the children are expected
 to obey them. Now there's dictatorship for you!!
 But, from the statements you have made, Charles, I presume there are no
 rules in your household. Everyone is "free" to do as they choose without
 fear of punishment.
 In the meantime, U.S. citizens like me have chosen to have the elected
 representatives of our respective "communities" make the decisions.
