Actually, the flyback(?) can get a loose lamination, which starts
vibrating at the 20-30 kHz frequency used for one of the motions of the
electron beam. 

Some people (like me) can *hear* up to 30 kHz (an "advantage" of
asthma). So everyone else is going "What noise?" while we are going
nuts.
