Not having any 440 gear, I can't tell you for sure about this, but several
folks I know of here locally go ahead and run their 440 gear straight into a
2m j-pole with no modifications, and no complaints. :-)

I saw on the Internet about one fellow who built a super-d-duper j-pole. He
had a web page describing it. Anyways, imagine a conventional j-pole with a
1/2 wave matching loop, a 1/2 wave radiator, another loop, another radiator,
one more loop, and one more radiator. This guy was claiming 12dB gain out of
the antenna! He had it guyed up, he was down in Florida so he _had_ to guy
it, you see... IIRC, total height was around 44'. Maybe that was just
assembled height off the ground.
If you want, send me an Email at r_brown@getonthe.net and I'll send you
the URL.
