When you say they weren't there, do you mean at a DOS prompt or inside Max 
with a file search?  If you're talking about inside Max, it may mean that you 
do not have FB set up correctly to run after an upload.
If you are talking about from a DOS prompt, that's the weirdest thing I've 
ever heard, and I have never seen anything remotely like it.
