| subject: | burnedout speakers pt2 |
OK, so I bought a cheapo $1 phillips screwdriver thinking I might need to bust the handle off to reach the screws. Turns out I had 1/8th inch to spare. ;-) I got the thing apart and was even more angry at myself. This thing was built to last! The bracket holding the main board for the amplifier is like major heavy-duty metal! There are two subboards connected via ribbon cable (no less) to the mainboard. I could find no visual signs of any one part overheating or burning out. :-\ There are two dark green globs (squarish with rounded edges) sticking up where the ribbon cables come out under them. I'm guessing these are the 'chips' housing the actual amplification circuits plus bass-boost, sourround sound, etc.? The magnets on the speakers are as large as the entire diameter of the speakers and the entire unit seems a 'quality' construction job to me. Loose wires are glued (hot glue gun?) in several places. Much attention to detail on these. As I said before, I ruined a good thing. :-\ (Don't watch I'm crying here) > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
