| subject: | JetAudio Player |
1237b6f57645 tech Hello Tom - TW> Downloaded and tried the JetAudio Player. It's certainly a fully-featured player. I'm still finding new functions. :-) TW> One strange problem. I set it up to be my MP3 player as my TW> Xing player will not stream MP3's, but it cuts off just TW> before the end of the stream. If this was my webpage I have found a few MP3s that could use some reworking. They all play the sound OK but a couple did stutter a bit when I was streaming them. I have to test at different times of day to allow for Internet 'lag' during busy times. I'm checking into it at my end. I really prefer XMPlay for streaming MP3s. The sound is 'crisp' and clean and being able to drag-n-drop links to the little (very) XMPlayer onscreen is easier/faster for me. The 'ramping' of sound volume in XMPlay works very nicely too if you don't like 'surprises' while listening to unfamiliar music. :-) TW> I didn't have thay problem with the WMA stream and Win TW> Media Player, The WMA format really is quite a bit better for dialup low bkps streaming. The sound is better (usually) and the stream gets _ahead_ of the player most of the time so that Internet 'burps' don't affect the playing of the tune often. Even the 'pros' admit that WMA sounds better at low bkps. MP3 developes 'tinkle' sounds at low bkps and I have four different configurations I must try to find the best one for each tune. 90% of my callers use Windows and can do WMA files but I don't want to trash the other 10% and continue to supply the best MP3s I can create here with the sofware I have to do it with. TW> I am still using 6.4 although the Jet Audio Install TW> installed something from Media Player 9 Didn't get to do TW> too much listening as I kept getting re-buffering. Before you move 'heaven and earth' test at least three websites and watch the indicator to see what bkps the music is attempting to use. If the bkps is equal to or higher than your connect rate it's going to stop/start frequently but will eventually finish. I've noticed my ISP connects at 45.2 most of the time but will sometimes report 44.0 - when I am at 44.0 streaming is much more likely to interrupt which seems odd (to me). The slight difference in connect speed to the ISP shouldn't be that much of a problem since the highest attempted stream rate is 40kbps? I'm producing MP3s down as low as 24kbps with an average of 32kbps which is what WMA uses here. The rate is 'variable' though, not fixed, and some MP3s will stress the connection while streaming. My system will go to 23% CPU use while streaming but normally is at 10-13% or less. That is with the 450mhz machine and a winmodem. :-\ > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
