i agree to all your points and thats what i wrote for 4 month in messages
to this address. I was using the EMEA DAP services since 1993, but i
stopped using it after close of BBS. I never used their internet services.
As it looks like, IBM is going 100% to internet/WWW. :-(((((
(there where some messages in Open Forum of OS2DF1 of Compuserve in the last weeks).
Last year SOM support tryed to change to WWW from CIS. i wrote the
following and received a lot of positive responses from other people. and
as it looks like, here are also a lot of people concerned about the IBM WWW
hype.

some comments on developer support via WWW:
a) in some environemts it is not acceptable to allow direct internet access
from all Workstations. due to
a1) security reasons
a2) performance reasons (to let everyone access WWW may cause a decrease in
worktime vs. play time. (WWW 'surfing' makes your PC / Workstation to a
PlayMachine).
b) it is hard to download information efficient (eq. i'm downloading some 100
msges / day in a few seconds - automatically - and then i can read them /
search them offline. I do NOT want to work online connected to internet).
c) it is hard to filter information and redistribute it in your own
environment (your local Network without internet access).
d) it is hard to save information offline in a database. (i have about 60MB
msg of s of interest for me from different sources on my machine, available
for high-speed search of information - avail for redistribution etc).
