With the two feral cats we have the only thing that lets me even pet them is
catnip, seriously :) It's the only way I can get them to the vet AAMOF.

We adopted a whole litter (4 kitties) one day at the mall, where the Humane
Society setup a shop.  They told us, these cats are feral and will NEED a lot
of er, training.  I laughed.. I think they called to see how things were going
with them like 4 times over several months :)  After the second year one of
them moved in with our neighbors (better food? no dogs? got me )  After the
4th or 5th year, the yellow long hair male disappeared.. I think someone
grabbed him to be honest, he was that beautiful. We still have the other two,
Lola and Lulu. Lulu now lets me pet her um.. now and again.  My grandson and my
son can actually pick her up .. Lola is evil and bites me every chance she gets
