Ken, Quebec is not a country. Quebec is a part (province) of Canada, at
least for the time being.
The progressive scene is still strong here. There are still a few fusion
bands around, and the band called Rush is still active. Rush has moved to
more main stream music, probably to fit in with radio formats, but is still
putting better stuff than the 3 minute love song.
I'm writing from Victoria, BC, Canada and I play in a rock band. Canada Day,
July 1st is coming up, and our band will be playing in front of over 5,000
people, then fireworks. Should be fun.

DM> DM>I received a 2 CD _Giant For A Life_ tribute album yesterday...
DM> MD> A Gentle Giant tribute CD!? Where do I get one?
DM>Italy. Chris Topham can prolly help you out. (Which way did you
DM>come in?) Send me an e-mail (you're midiot@something, right?) if
DM>you need his address... david.marheine@yops.com should work.
I bought via the Internet a 2 CD set "Giant Tracks: A Tribute to Gentle
Giant." From your discription, I think this is the CD you are referring
to. Surely there aren't TWO double CD tributes to GG out? "Giant for a
Life" would be a good title though. Anyway, this "Giant Tracks" I
purchased is fantastic. Disc 1 is 59:15 in length and every track is
amazing. The secong CD has a few rough spots, but still also has some
amazing music on it. it runs 51:01. It says "detailed liner notes are
available on the World Wide Web at http://www.quackwatch.com/GT/" and
"Visit the Gentle Giant homepage at
http://www.cs.umass.edu/~barrett/gentlegiant.html"
While I was looking for this CD on the Web I found several Web shops
that sell nothing but Prog-Rock - incredible! I bought 2 sampler CDs
from one, Kenesis, for real cheap and they have some great Prog-Rock on
them, by bands I have never heard of. Their URL is
http://www.kenesiscd.com, and their email is info@kenesiscd.com. I
found about 5 other similar sites, all selling unique Prog-Rock for
reasonable prices by just following the links to suggested retailers
from which to buy "Giant Tracks" from the Gentle Giant homepage. I
invite you to check it out. The Web is revitalizing the Prog-Rock genre!
DM> MD> But by far the best album of GG's to start with has got to be the
DM> MD> double live "Playing the Fool." Despite your stated dislike of 70's
DM> MD> live albums in-general, this one does not exhibit the flaws you
listed;
DM> MD> it's simply a fantastic album, covers most of their previous
aterial,
DM> MD> and shows this band could actually play all that complex stuff LIVE.
DM>Thanks for the input. I'll probably start nabbing whatever I can find
DM>on vinyl inexpensively. I'm guessing _PTF_ was too long for a single
No, "Playing the Fool" is selling as a SINGLE CD for single CD prices.
One place you can buy it is via the Web at http://cdnow.com, for
around $11-12 I think, and there are other internet sites that have it
too. Right now the MTV CD shop is providing free shipping and they
also have it available, as well as every other GG release. The Web
has been a fantastic resource for me to find CD issues of all my old
favorite Prog-Rock albums and some new ones too. Viva la Web!
Viva Prog-Rock!
btw - my e-mail address is now mike3655@mindspring.com; I changed ISPs
in order to take advantage of the new USR 56K modems.
