> I want to make use of OS/2, Windoze, and DOS in my programming. > Assembly insertion in my programs is also a must. Why? Even if your compiler supports insertion of assembly, try to keep an open mind and re-evaluate if you really need assembly. With modern operating systems such as OS/2, it is better to use a high level language and write to the API. The many reasons to avoid assembly language under a modern OS boil down various aspects of quality, reliability, re-use, and portability. Bad habits common under MSDOS programming should be abandoned. Low-level "tricks" bypassing the OS services should be avoided. Modern compilers do a very good job of optimization so assembly language may even yield slower code. This is particularly true for the new pipelined and superscaler processors where instruction ordering and alignment for optimal dispatch can be particularly hairy. --- Maximus/2 3.01* Origin: Enlightened Board (703) 370-9528 (1:109/615) SEEN-BY: 50/99 270/101 620/243 711/401 409 410 413 430 808 809 934 955 SEEN-BY: 712/407 515 517 628 713/888 800/1 7877/2809 @PATH: 109/615 17 13/25 396/1 270/101 712/515 711/808 809 934 |
