Another rummage sale... another study in human nature! I phoned the church office to enquire about wheelchair accessibility & was told they had an elevator door near the parking lot. I felt rather skeptical, however, when my informant went on to say "Just press the black buzzer." I wondered whether we were suppposed to wait for somebody to arrive who could actually operate it... an event about as likely in my own experience as having a genie appear & offer to grant three wishes. Years before Nora needed a wheelchair I'd learned that folks who say "Just do xxx" usually leave out some very important detail, so I inspected the elevator while Dallas stayed with her elsewhere. To make a long story short... the black buzzer was a car call button. The door was unlocked, and the elevator was at parking lot level, but it won't operate without a key. It's similar to the lift we have at home & I had a lift key in my pocket which worked pefectly. Although I'm glad I found a solution, I wonder sometimes how many people are clueless because people like us make things look easy.... :-) --- timEd/386 1.10.y2k+* Origin: Wits' End, Vancouver BC, CANADA [604-266-5271] (1:153/716) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 153/716 7715 140/1 106/2000 633/267 |
