04 Mar 97 00:02, Hey Rocky! Lori Harvey pulled 2.2l outta his hat!:
LH> understand.....My little 2.2l has 247k on it, and we plan on driving
LH> it a long time. We've had that car longer than any other car we've
LH> had. How many cars do you know that have that many miles on it, with
LH> approx. 73k on an overhaul done 3 yrs. ago.
My buddies 61 Chevy pickup, 373k, inline six engine, never been torn down.
Religiously changes oil every 3000 miles. Three on the column, been through
5 or 6 clutches. Still on it's original set of rear drums, 3rd set of brake
shoes, 5th set of front shoes, new drums twice. 3rd master cylinder took a
crap last week. How do I know? I owned it for it's first 15 years. He
bought it and has had it since.
Next month, it's goes into the hotrod shop. His 1974 GMC is going to give up
it's 454 engine and 700R4 trans. His 73 Malibu SS is going to give up of
it's suspension. Disk brakes and all. Why? Because the state of California
wants him to smog the 73 and 74. They also want him to insure everything
(good idea) before he can register them. The 61 is exempt from smog here,
and will be cheap to get liability insurance. BTW, the 61 is a real cutie
pie. Ugliest front end you ever saw on a truck, but it's a fleetside
shortbed. No rust either. Pure California truck.
Maybe he'll have the smarts to tub it and put some meat on the ground back
there. After all, that 454 is going to make short work of those skinny
little tires he has on it now.
