Some senseless babbling from Pierre Vandevenne to Mike Ruskai
on 26 Jan 96 18:28:15 about Cluster algorithm...
PV> Hello,
MR> This is the algorithm I'm using to determine a drive's cluster size based
MR> on its size:
PV> Why don't you look at offset 0dh in the boot sector ?
Because I don't have a clue how to do that in REXX :) Also because I need
to determine what the cluster size WOULD be if a drive were formatted FAT,
but is formatted HPFS.
MR> I shrunk it down from 100MB with PartitionMagic (1.0), but I also
MR> reformatted the drive.
PV> Partition Magic 2.0 has a cluster rsize option, just for the cases you
PV> mentionned...
I'm aware of that. I'm still not clear on what happens between 16MB and
64MB. By pure design, it ought to go from a 512 byte allocation unit
(between 16MB and 32MB) to a 1024 byte AU (between 32MB and 64MB), then on
to a 2048 byte AU, and so on. But I still don't know off hand what it
would actually be. I suppose I could try to get one of the old PS/2's
working to experiment.
