subject: 200G drives...

Hi All.

Had an interesting discussion with my dealer this past Saturday.

He told me that he had just returned two brand new 200G Western Digital
drives because they refused to boot with WinXP.

He worked with both WD tech and Microsoft tech on those.

WD downloaded their latest firmware upgrade to him to put on one drive, and
an 'experimental' firmware upgrade for the second drive.

Microsoft also sent two 'patches' to him for WinXP.

Best he could get was a 'loop boot', where WinXP would boot to the splash
screen and re-start, over, and over, and over, etc.

BIOS sees the whole drive, FDISK and FORMAT run with no problems, full
capacity displayed, WinXP installs with no problems, but system will not
boot thereafter.

Just for info in case someone else is tempted to go to a BIG HD. :-((

     Good luck... M.
