You obviously do not understand the impact of living as a "government
declared second-class citizen."

I cannot speak for your wife's actions; they are not ones that I would choose.

I would not necessarily say that deciding not to tell one's parents
necessarily implies a lack of bravery; it may simply be a desire to avoid
potential hurt. Not being there I cannot say, and as you do not share her
parents, (I hope), it is not for you to say, either.

But I can say that much of your rant can be addressed in court -- an option
NOT open to Gay couples.

Yes, marriage implicitly implies the possibility of divorce; Gay
"activists", (i.e., Gay people who do not want to be treated as
second-class citizens), are not asking for "special rights".
Simply the same rights as the rest of the adult citizens in this country.

And when a pledge, oath, song, poem or other expression represents equality
for all, I will often choose that as an opportunity to speak up and point
out areas where that expression is false.

If you want this issue to "go away", I suggest you assist in
promoting the reality of equality instead of a mere comforting illusion.
