Why not run an extension cord out to the dish, take the receiver
and a small TV out there, and watch what happens when you adjust
the dish?  Theoretically you could just use the signal strength
meter on the receiver, except that the newer receivers only have
an on screen signal indication.

Those trees can mess up the signal.  Just don't cut down the
neighbor's trees without his permission :)
