Tom, sorry for responding to this so late.  My radio is essentially the same 
as a DX 440 by Radio Shack.  The Sangean ATS 818CS has a built-in cassette 
recorder.  Otherwise, it is the same as the Sangean ATS 818.  The BFO knob 
has to be tuned "very carefully" in order for the signal to come in through 
the PK232 on center (TUNE LED).  The Sangean has a tendency to drift off 
frequency from time to time.  So, I've got to keep my finger on the BFO to 
keep it in tune with the PK232.  Unfortunately, the Sangean is all I've got 
now.  Burglars took my ICOM R71A in February.  It is missed here.  Happy
