Greetings from Pensey's Point, SAM!
SAM EWALT put fingers to keyboard and spelled out some words about
Drdos6.0 to CHRIS SALLEK on 18-Jun-96.
SE> Is there any advantage to using PC-DOS with Geos? I know that
SE> PC-DOS 7 has a much smaller footprint than MS-DOS 6.22 and
SE> supposedly niftier utilities. Any advantage for Geoworkers?
No specific advantage, other than the optimised DOS code, which gives
more conventional memory to DOS based programs.
SE> And on an historical note didn't Mr. Bill buy DOS from
SE> Digital after he had started negotiations with IBM to
SE> provide them with the operating system for the PC?
Nope. The designers of the original PC had CP/M 86 in mind for the
computer. IBM approached DR for that, but got turned down because of the
restrictive nature of the contract. Mr Bill bought QDOS, a CP/M 86 clone
from Seattle Computer Products and *licensed* it to IBM, retaining the
rights to flog it to all and sundry. Shrewd move.
