WL> LH> million to keep things running six more months. I don't understand,
WL> LH> the Texas routes make money. During holiday periods they have to add
WL> LH> several cars to keep up with demand.
WL> There is considerable question as to whether the Texas routes
WL>make money, or whether any routes make money...perhaps the Northeast
WL>Corridor and Los Angeles-San Diego.
In most businesses, you would ordinarily expect them to make more money
when their sales are up. Why else would any business try to increase
gross sales? If Amtrak is different, so be it.
Why do you dispute it when you admit you are speculating?
WL> There is a great misconception that if Amtrak takes in more
WL>money--carries more passengers or whatever--they make more money. It
WL>depends...quite often Amtrak loses more money if they carry more
WL>passengers (and take in more money).
Perhaps that is true, then again maybe not. Do you know for sure? Does
it matter in a friendly conversation?
WL> This is true in many businesses. Because you have more
WL>business and take in more money you may not have more profit.
WL> Gross receipts do not equate to net profit.
Yeah but even Amtrak tries to increase gross receipts.
