subject: The Black Art...

DM> I was wondering if anyone has read a book called: "The Black Art of
DM>3D Game Programming." from the Waite Group Press.
What do you need to know about 3d programming?
DM> What I really want to know is, I am currently trying to write a
DM>Flight simulator. I need to know if this book will help me to do that,
DM>or if it is just another one of these ones that teach you how to do DOOM
DM>games. If it does however teach how to do 3D polygonal games like a
DM>flight simulator, I would love to have it.
First of all, DOOM isn't 3d. It uses 2d bsp trees. (simple to implement). It
just uses simple tricks to appear 3d. (chaning floor/ceiling heights etc).
Yes, that book does cover 3d concepts. But like most books, uses different
algorithms and makes it hard to understand. (it uses proper notation)
But get it, brings some useful tips.
DM> Also, are there any other books that could help me on this subject?
Algorithms and equations by ?. Mandelbrot.
(yes, the person who created the mandelbrot equation z = z^2 + c)
DM>Thanx in advance.
