-=> Quoting JIM HOLSONBACK to ROY J. TELLASON <=- JH> Hello, Roy. JH> (Moan) - oh, that reminds me - I need to make an appointment for an JH> eye exam and to get some new specs. I thoroughly dislike the JH> aftermath of having eyes dilated. I'd rather stay old and ugly. JH> [:-D. RJT> I gotta do that too... RJT> We just got Nancy new glasses. My excuse for putting it off is that I RJT> have to pay for it and then get reimbursed later from work, and so I'd RJT> need the money to use. And having just spent a pile of funds on car RJT> repairs, that's gonna take a little while. JH> Yuh, yuh, you hate rebates, and ----------------- but JH> my recommendation -- forget the money delay, and see to it, Roy. JH> Heck, among your talents and abilities, what is more important than JH> your eyesight? I'm not currently on speaking terms with that Charles JH> Angelich fellow, but from what I've seen in some of his recent JH> postings, he currently has some eyesight problems, and I'm sure he JH> would agree with me that you should go ahead and have an eye exam, and JH> pay attention to the results. I've got a friend who's been nearly blind most of her life and is losing what's left. You *don't* want to know what gear for printing Braille costs, nor what software to "read" the text on the computer screen costs. And there are exactly *two* portable "computer" systems that do speech & Braille. One is about the equivalent of an *old* Palm Pilot or similar handheld (runs Win CE 2.x). And costs $6000. The other is a modified Pocket PC setup and is "only" $2500. Oh yeah, an 80-character, one line Braille display retails for $12,000. You do *not* want to wind up needing any of this gear. --- FMailX 1.60* Origin: Shadowgard (1:105/50) SEEN-BY: 633/267 270 @PATH: 105/50 360 106/2000 633/267 |
