~> EC>> "Narrowcasting" is a simple marketing concept that has a very clear ~> EH> meaning ~> The correct term is 'cablecasting' if it's only available on ~> cable. Klahn is SO predictable. IF he had looked up the term in just about any decent dictionary he would have learned that "cablecast" is a simple contraction of the words "cable broadcast!" Businessdictionary.com is even more specific: "Broadcast of a program over a cable network." ~> EH> The signal is broadcast the same as local stations are, but ~> EH> the means is different. Instead of the use of antennas, ~> EH> they use cabling. ~> Which is not "the same". Antenna transmissions are recievable by ~> anyone who has an antenna and a TV. Cable Transmissions requre ~> attachment to the cable. Ham radio transmissions are "recievable" by anyone who has an antenna and a receiver, so by THAT definition ALL ham traffic is a "broadcast." But the definition in FCC regulations is a bit different: "Transmissions intended for reception by the general public, either direct or relayed." That definition centers on the INTENT of the sender. By that definition cable programming is not RADIO broadcasting, because it is not done by RADIO transmission. But it is CABLE broadcasting since it is done by CABLE transmission. Cable broadcasting. Or, for convenience, one could shorted that to "cablecasting." And the dictionary.com definition of that term: "a television program broadcast via cable television." Grab some popcorn. Klahn's next comedy routine is coming up soon. --- Platinum Xpress/Win/WINServer v3.0pr5a* Origin: FidoTel & QWK on the Web! www.fidotel.com (1:124/311) SEEN-BY: 10/1 3 11/200 331 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 187 140/1 226/0 SEEN-BY: 236/150 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 SEEN-BY: 280/1027 320/119 396/45 633/260 267 712/848 801/161 189 2222/700 SEEN-BY: 2320/100 105 5030/1256 @PATH: 124/311 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
