Roy, at 23:53 on Jul 16 1995, you wrote to Paul Edwards...

That'll do fine Roy. Either that, or &K0 to disable compression
completely. The S27=32 is correct though, and forces an MNP4 connect (or,
with &M5 set, drops carrier instead, if MNP4 cannot be negotiated).

On uncompressible files (as distinct from precompressed, some of which can
actually be compressed further), V.42bis adds less than a 1% penalty to cps
rates, while MNP5 can impact quite highly, as much as 10% or more. The
main reason for this is that BTLZ "disables" itsself if it isn't
required, and only checks occasionally to see if further compression is
possible, while MNP5 continually tries to compress everything, regardless.

... 22/2 (I'm complaining BTW, not gloating)
