subject: DISNEY RADIO IN EUROPE

DM>BM> Disney Radio, previously restricted to just five test market
DM>BM> cities, is going nationwide, according to an article in this
DM>BM> weekend's edition of "USA Today".
DM> ... would I be able to receive it using a world receiver in germany?
I rather doubt it. The present stations are all in the U.S. AM broadcast
band, between 640KHz and 1600Khz. So far, the stations have been pretty
weak. I can't get the Atlanta station here in Chattanooga, and we're
only 120 miles [200km] away.
That's not to say that one of the new stations might not be stronger.
Try tuning your receiver into the above band and see what you can get
with your present antenna. KNX at 1070KHz would be a good one to
try--50KW in Los Angeles should make it to you if anything will.
The big problem is that the U.S. AM broadcast band reuses the channels
many times over across the continent. Only a few stations--less than a
dozen as I recall--are what we call "clear channel" stations, 100KW with
no other U.S. broadcasters permitted. If Disney converts one of these,
you're in luck, but I wouldn't hold my breath.
Then again, skip makes some wonderful things happen to AM broadcasts.
You never can tell when magic will happen--especially when Disney is
concerned. I'll post the frequencies as I hear of them, and I trust
others here will do the same.
(Yoo Hoo, Joe! What's the frequency for the Atlanta station?)
