I have 4DOS 6.01A here, Win95, and if I use Command Prompt Only or
MS-DOS Mode, it sure can't be run. BUT if I'm using a SHELL TO
4DOS/MS-DOS Prompt (whatever I chose) start sure works.

I don't know what are you referring to by saying "4dos Window"...
There are three ways to use the prompt (4DOS and MS-DOS) in Windows95:
Command Prompt Only (BootGUI=0 or F8/Command Prompt Only)
Shell to 4DOS (Like any other Shortcut or program; running 4DOS.COM/PIF)
     4DOS in MS-DOS Mode (Start/ShutDown/Restart computer in MS-DOS Mode,
                          which runs "Exit to DOS.PIF")

Now.... Try to paraphrase your explanation to be more accurate...
