Hi Rick,
I haven't ever had a conversation with you so I'll introduce myself and
then give you the solution that I have for the same problem. I am a
veterinarian, not avian but monkey. I work at a primate center in
Louisiana. I own a Blue and Gold Macaw, Moluccan, African Grey, and breed
Pacific Parrotlets.
My husband and I are sold on acrylic cages. That is how we solved the
problem. On top of the constant cleaning and sweeping we have a dachsund
named Emily (we should have named her Hoover!!) that eats anything she
comes across and needless to say without being too graphic - she was
yacking up bird food on a daily basis.
All of our birds are in acrylic cages, even our breeding pairs. We are
happy and so are they. They get plenty of air (this is a common criticism
of these cages) through air holes in the top of the cages. The macaw cage
is 3' x 3' x 4' and sits on a wooden base. Danny and Pat Chauvin of
Chauvin's Custom Cages makes these cages. You would have to talk to him
about cost and shipping, etc. His add has been placed in previous issues
of Bird Talk and he is well known in my area.
His address and phone number:

Good Luck! Anita
