| subject: | Welcome to the Bob Kl |
Replying to a message of Jeff Binkley to Bob Ackley: RC>>> Werent you stationed on a NATO or other US Military base in RC>>> Turkey during the Cold War? BA>> He may have been. The 'Cold War' ran from about 1950 until 1990 - BA>> one could say that it's still in progress. BA>> There were many 'garden spots' in Turkey where US personnel were BA>> assigned. I don't happen to know of any that the Navy had and managed BA>> to avoid being sent to any that the AF had (in fact I managed to BA>> avoid *all* assignments to Europe - I had my retirement papers in BA>> and *approved* when an assignment floated in for Heraklion, Greece, BA>> my impending retirement scotched that. JB> I am not aware of any 'garden spots' but if there were any, they wee JB> along the Medeterranian side and not on the Black Sea. The Army (ASA) guys I worked with at JSPC on Okinawa often referred to Sinop as being a 'garden spot.' There and Asmara, Ethiopia (which has been a radio intercept site since at least WW II). I'm sure a lot of sarcasm was intended . --- FleetStreet 1.19+* Origin: Bob's Boneyard, Emerson, Iowa (1:300/3) SEEN-BY: 10/1 11/200 331 34/999 120/228 123/500 128/2 187 140/1 226/0 236/150 SEEN-BY: 249/303 250/306 261/20 38 100 1381 1404 1406 1418 266/1413 280/1027 SEEN-BY: 320/119 396/45 633/260 267 712/848 801/161 189 2222/700 2320/100 105 SEEN-BY: 5030/1256 @PATH: 300/3 14/5 140/1 261/38 633/260 267 |
