1237b716535f tech Hello Tom - TW>>> driving one. It decidedly did not drive "Like your Fathers TW>>> Oldsmobile" as they say. :-) :-) ->> Odd as it seems the Corvair behaved as though it was ->> _overpowered_ for the weight of the car. All of the ->> 'feedback' you got while driving it was identical to what ->> most overpowered vehicles feel like with the exception of ->> the Charger 440s. They just felt like one solid chunk of ->> iron gone insane. ;-) TW> That is right. ITF you have yuor wits about you it did give TW> you sings that it was going to Hurt you if you got a little TW> more foolish. But dull your brain even a little bit and you TW> were getting into very dangerious territory. The Corvair was the only car I ever witnessed a driver running headon into a telephone pole in the rain. He wasn't injured (he was young) but it sure embarassed him, it was his grandmother's car. :-\ TW> Of TW> course the same is true of ALL rear engined cars evcept for TW> possabibly the pittifully underpowered Fiats of many years TW> ago. I know I had a little Renault Daulphine over in Hawaii TW> and you counld get you into a heap of trouble and find TW> yuorself going off the road backwards. My rollover was the result of a sharp turn, oil on the turn, and rain. I just couldn't get the car turned back forwards and we slid into a ditch and rolled up on the side. No one was injured beyond bruises and the car suffered only minor body damage. By the time we rolled it had slowed down considerably from sliding sideways for some distance. :-\ The Pontiac Tempest did not seem to have these same handling problems. Friends who had them had no real problems and they were quite fast too. Pre-cursors of the GTO which were, of course, front engine rear wheel drive 'normal' design automobiles. > > , , > o/ Charles.Angelich \o , > __o/ > / > USA, MI < \ __\__ ___ * ATP/16bit 2.31 * ...
