Hi Earl, I believe a public option is necessary. In addition to the aforementioned information, I would add the legislation also prohibits insurance companies from denying coverage to those with pre-existing conditions. This one issue is at great odds with the Republicans. I don't really understand why because by definition, it turns the insurance company into a death panel for many with extremely debilitating conditions. I personally know or are related to a dozen people affected by this one rule who are walking around without insurance. Of course there must be some company ready to take them in but with premiums in the thousands per month the cost is unreachable. The public option provides for those people and will drive the overall cost of health insurance down. Maybe it's very design is flawed, we may never know if it isn't passed into law.
