I would say they are even easier to write than any virus since you
don't need routines for attaching the trojan to a host and therefore
you don't even need a replication routine. And since (as you mentioned)
a shell script can satisfy the definition of a trojan you don't even
need knowledge of the assembly language.

I'd say it's more because trojans aren't that widespread (due to the
lack of beeing able to reproduce). They'd typically only show up on
a view systems.
Also (imho) trojans are more a problem of the Unix world (and since
most people use MS ...). I mean what could a trojan possible do
to a MS system  (that is if you were able to upload it afterall) ?
Formatting your C: ? Big deal ... very satisfyieng indeed. But under
Unix there are the real possibilities :
- re-routing mail
- locking out root
- leaving backdoors to the system
- stealing data out of /home
- ok, crashing the system is possible as well ;)
