subject: PK232 Locked Up

I've got one of the earlier versions of the PK232 Pakratt multi-mode
controller. Something happened to it last night as I was in MO command mode
(MORSE). I believe an erroneous command was sent from my keyboard by
accident while attempting to change the AWLEN from 8 to 7. I turned the unit
off and re-started it. But, all that appeared were garbage characters
instead of the sign-on default value message. And, when I tried to type in a
command to change from MO to AMTOR, nothing happened. The unit wasn't
receiving my typed in commands and nothing appeared on the screen except a
continuation of the KPH CQ message I was receiving before the set was turned
off. How do I get that initial screen message to come back up? I tried
typing in ***** with the standard one second delay but still nothing on the
screen.

Another problem I've been having with the PK232 over the past few weeks is
when it is in AMTOR receive for SITOR at 100 baud. I've been getting arrows
across the screen whenever a signal comes in from WLO, for instance. The LED
lights move from idle to traffic OK and the TUNE indicator is "right on" the
signal (centered correctly). But all I get is those darned arrows. Could
the first problem and the second problem be connected in some way to the
back-up batteries? Any help in advance will be greatly appreciated from
those who are experts on this. Hopefully, I'll be able to get these problems
solved soon. Happy Holidays & Happy Monitoring...Brian.
