That's a question I just tumbled over, too (comes from lurking in BATPOWER
and trying their workarounds for functions missing in CC). Official answer
from JPSOFT's support: CC's internal command PROMPT sends it s output "for no
clear reason" to stdout, while 4DOS's does not. So the above is definitely
out.
To eliminate the above tortuous workaround take a look at topic "Batch File
String Processing" in your 4DOS help. A little applied SETDOS before and
after an ECHO command might do.
