I expect it'd be for running printers (maybe serial printers from a
parallel interface but more likely the other way round)

judginf from the brandname dunno prolly serial out of the computer (like
from a mac's printer port) into a parallel printer (image writers were
basicallr epson compatible dot matrix printers but with a serial interface)

as for voltages have a look inside and post the specs of ant components
directy connected to both contacts of the power input and which pins are
involved.  but at a guess either 12Vac or 9V dc or possibly 5v dc regulated.
