Hmm. That's very interesting. Thanks very much for bringing it to my
attention. I didn't know that the U.S. controlled any
part of Samoa today. Now I understand why the independent nation of
Western Samoa doesn't have any extradition treaty with the U.S. One way
of causing the United States a bit of annoyance.
I did go to the library today and photocopied some material on American
Samoa. It has the same status as Puerto Rico. Some of the residents even
collect welfare. I had already researched Western Samoa. Funny--all that
research just for a few lines of dialog, because I don't have to deal with
he
actual experiences of my characters there. The book ends with them on
their way to Western Samoa. They'll just have to manage there without my
help.
